New fork better sterring? marz micro ti 44 29er on talon 1

I have a 2010 giant talon 1 29er. It had a suntour fork that I just replaced with a Marzocchi 44 Micro Ti Fork - 29in - 2010. I have have not installed the spacer to reduce it to 100mm travel yet. I believe the marz is 140mm from the factory but im not certain.

Since im completely green when it comes to mbt riding I have a couple questions.

    1. Why is the steering so much faster and better with the new fork? Its substantially more nimble when turning and doing switchbacks and such. Could the better fork be doing that or is it because its longer? Everything else is the same as it was before

    2. If I were to not install the spacer, would this cause a problem. The frame is rated for a 100mm fork and the marz sits at 135mm with no load on it. When I sit on the bike, the suntour and the marz sit at the exact same length. I had a buddy measure before I swapped them out.
Everything else but the pedals are stock (for now)

    Thanks for the help.

I have about 50lbs of air in her with the rebound set 4 clicks from the fastest and the preload set about 4 clicks from the hardest setting.

Yes the 44's are burly... So likely you are just experiencing steering precision for the 1st time.
If the ride height is the same regardless of travel(overall travel) then there is little effect on the geo.
However you may want to add the spacer at some point so you can firm up the fork and still have like geo with a stiffer ride... I have an xtc at 100mm but would love to spacer the fork up to 120mm. I also have a 44 on my sultan @140mm which I ride soft (like your doing) and love it.

    thanks for the info.

I think I will try it with the spacer after several more riders and see which I like better.

I also replaced my Talon 1 29er fork with the Marz 44 Micro Ti. I have mine set at 120mm and love it. If it works why fix it?
