Need Advice--2014 Spec. Stumpjumper EVO Aluminum HT vs 2014 Cannondale F29 Carbon 3

I am about to pull the trigger on my first mountain bike and I having a super hard time deciding between these two. I have been riding my buddies Carve rigid single speed, which I love, but I am ready for something new

Option 1: 2014 Stumpy Evo Al HT. $1850 Im stoked about the 1x10 and the geometry is something that I am used to coming off the carve. The fox fork looks bomber and I have heard nothing but good things. I also did the fact that it is nearly sub 25lbs.

Option2: new 2013 Cannondale F29 Carbon 3. $2100 I am originally a road rider some im geeked out about carbon. That said I got no complaints about going aluminum. Like and newbie I'm skeptical of the lefty fork even though my buddies and the internet have nothing but good things to say.

That said is $250 worth spending to get on a carbon mt. bike?

With your price range I would highly recommend the Scott Scale 950 over both of those bikes. You can probably land a nice deal on one especially now that the 2015's are showing up on the dealer floor. As for carbon, well my opinion is that carbon bikes don't belong to first timers. Learn the the fundamentals because that simple mistake could cost you your bike and carbon isn't cheap nor is it as durable as aluminum.

For 2100 you can also get a carbon Trek Superfly 9.6 with some negotiating. It has new geo and the carbon frame has been engineered for excellent rear compliance. The 2015 F-SI version of the F29 gets rid of the 71* head tube angle and shortens the chainstays for similar geo. The older F29 geo is twitchy hitting bumps going downhill. Same with the Stumpy. Scott has good geo but not as much compliance.
