My 26er friends won't talk to me....

I have my riding buds - all of us in our late 40s and 50s with kids in college, tight with a buck, etc. I made noise about getting a 29er, I found a great deal on a Specialized Camber Comp on CList and pulled the trigger. Now I'm getting the cold shoulder....

    Think they're a little envious???

Its my first experience with a 29er and its a shot in the arm for my riding fun. Its been great.

Hopefully you are joking. If not, find new friends.

If you are all 'tight with a buck' are they envious because you have a 29er or just the fact you have a shiny new FS bike?

Become a trail steward and even more riders won't talk to you.

Here's what I noticed with the different wheel sizes - 3 inches.

Big wheels, small wheels, flat pedals, clipped pedals - they all work for me. If we move the topic to spandex you'll get some stronger opinions.

Go buy a new Coach purse and then see how envious they get!

    Your friends are women, right?
When the chicks at school see how gay we are, they're gonna be all over us.

I had that same problem back in '06 when I got my first 29er. Now they've all come to the dark side and we talk again

You just have to stop and wait for them every so often, that's all.

In every group, somebody has to step up to the plate, and be first.

Congratulations on being your groups' Alpha!

    I only noticed 1.5 inches...

I wonder if that first ride went something like this:

"Hey guys, I got a new ride! It's got bigger wheels, they call them twenty-niners. Isn't that cool?"

    500 feet later...

"Did I mention this new bike has larger wheels?"

    800 feet later...

"Hey guys, did you see how well I rolled that section? I was soooo much faster that time!"

    5 feel later....

"Did you notice how big these wheels are? They are huge!"

    428 feet later...

"Guys, do I seem faster now?"

    7 feet later...

"Guys? Guys? Hey, why are you all hiding behind that bush?"

I will suffer no butt-hurt fools!

Hahaha..... As a group, we all had been pretty dismissive of 29ers as a fad and riding is riding, not that we had any experience riding them....

Now with 10+ hours of riding the Camber under my belt, I don't think its just the wheels. The frame is significantly bigger - longer wheelbase, stretched out cockpit, wider handlebars. The whole package is way different than my other bikes. Its pretty great!

My buds are the best and they all will have a chance to give the Camber a workout and decide for themselves if there's something to the big wheel bikes. Then the question will be do I get one? That's what they don't want to talk about.

I give them a year and they'll all be riding them....

It's not that they won't talk to you... they just can't have the breath to keep up AND to talk to you.

Well one of your "friends" is probably Turbodog. We all know how he is intimidated by the big wheels.

I had the same problem... He hasn't rode with me in over 2 years, and his identity would be crushed after I leave him in the weeds.

Funny though because he also won't go Tubeless or swap his slow nevegals out for something faster... meaning I'd still Crush him on a 26er...
