    Isis BB upgrade

I've got an 07 Gary Fisher X-Caliber with an ISIS BB and Bontrager Select crankset. I got the used bike a few months ago and now, after a wet and muddy year, the BB is grinding and getting loose. I've searched my brains out for a decent replacement BB and as you all know, the Isis design in weak. I'm looking to either replace the BB every few months as it dies or just upgrade the whole BB/crankset.

I need some advice as to what route I should take. Either suggestions for a decent Isis BB to try or a better BB/crankset. I've searched and read and really, there is way too much information out there. There are so many different models to choose from. I will say, though, my budget would be about $200-ish, $250 max. I want to keep it as 2 chain rings and a bash guard. I have Sram components and would probably just swap the chain rings to save a little cash.

Shimano SLX crank set and bottom bracket is probably the most bang for the buck and nets you a larger external bearing bottom bracket.

I'm not a bottom bracket expert but I have seen a Truvative external bearing bottom bracket for ISIS drive cranks. Not sure if that would work for you and looks like it would space your cranks outward and mess up the chain line.

Second choice, I'd go with a standard Shimano Hollowtech II 105 BB and a set of Shimano SLX M665 2x9 Crankset w/bash guard. About $250 for those parts so just within your budget.

Blue sky has it on sale for $140 right now.

    BlueSkyCycling.com - Shimano SLX M665 Crankset w/ Bash Guard 8/9 Speed

Ditch the ISIS and don't look back. No need to swap chainrings either.

Thanks for the quick replies guys! One more day for that sale. I'm jumping on it right now.
