How much does your 29er weigh in at?

Hey guys/gals, I recently upgraded to a 29er! Thing is, it's pretty heavy(31 pounds), which is expected with mine being an XL, but I was wondering how much your 29" bike weighs?

30 lbs, XL Niner Rip9. A bit on the heavy side but not bad for a 4.5" travel XL bike.

2013 Trek Stache 8ish. Similar build to the 8 but with burlier parts in key places. 31.5 pounds. I weight 265 and like technical, aggressive riding. Any lighter and stuff breaks too often.

Gravity G-29 (19") weighs in at 28.2lbs with lighter seat and dual bottle cages. Will be going tubless and swapping stock rear tire for a 2.1" Small-block 8. Hoping to get it down to 26lbs with that.

Is there a weight sweet spot? Some weight that is considered to be on the lighter side. Say for a HT?

The sweet spot for me would be when the bike feels nimble. That for me would be under 25lbs. But in my experience which is limited. The lighter the wheelset and bike overall the more nimble it feels. So the lighter the better for me.

Makes sense, I was thinking that 25 would be a achievable weight at a fair low cost.

I'm at 26lbs now, I was thinking maybe $200 could help. I know that cheaps is all relative. To be honest it won't make a bit of difference, I am not racing and not fast. I just like to have the best weapon i can, within reason.

I dont think 200 will get you there from my limited experience. What can you buy for 200 that will drop you one pound. Interested on how to do this myself. Wheels and fork are you heaviest bits. What kinda bike to you own and what have you upgraded so far?

    Maxxis Ardent 2.25 front tire

    Thomson seatpost 410mm(can be cut)
    Stock lock on grips

I was thinking of swapping to 2.0 Racing Ralphs, this could save 250gms alone. Not sure if that is worth it, saving a big on esi racers edge grips, can cut the seat post to save 20 grams. Thats almost 300 grams, that leaves me with a bit more to knock off a lb.

Absolutely ridiculous, I know but i'm on a quest.

Yeah, seems like you already have it dialed in pretty good. Perhaps you cut your handlebars too if they are a bit wide. I've heard good things about the Ralphs, as they will be my next choice in tires. You have a great setup and I would really change a thing. You can always try the single speed option if you want. It dropped 3.5lbs off my bike. I'm running a 32x18T on mine and theres not a whole lot that I cant get up. You can get a Tioga saddle which I hear is pretty comfy for the weight of it. And its under the 200 mark.

My 2013 Camber Comp Carbon 29er (med frame) weighs in at 29 lbs with my dropper post which I assume adds a pound or so. Gonna go tubless and throw some lighter pedals on there. Maybe new rims down the line.

22 and change w/bathroom scale...I need to do it on a real one at some point! 15.5" Specy Stumpy Evo HT w/Roval Control wheels set up tubeless (S-Works Fast Trak 2.0 [f] Renegade Control 1.95 [r]); everything else stock. I don't get the pedals not being included. They are part of the bike so they should get included in the weight...mine has set of 520s...they are heavy and I could go Eggbeaters to drop off a bit there. Hopefully I will get getting a Niner RDO carbon post under the tree this year and will likely get a carbon bar as well shortly after..that should shave a bit more..would like it right at 22.

Pure XC race machine meant for tame trails/fire roads. Couldn't ride that in most places in Wy/Co. Definitely cool engineering though.

My camber weight 29lbs. Over the holidays she ate a little too much and gained a dropper a post. Gonna take her to the gym and go tubeless and get new wheels. Hopefully she can be back down to a healthy weight of 26 lbs soon.

My Rigid SS G29 weighs in at 28.5lbs with bottle cages. Liking it enough to start upgrading after the holidays. Tubeless, carbon bars, fork, seat post & seat oughtta lighten things up some.

It's the Indian, not the arrow.

Plenty of bro-brah "AM" riders get smoked on downhills by fast "XC" riders on HTs and short travel FS bikes. Guys like Nino Schurter and Marco Fontana would probably blow anyone you know out of the water...on a hardtail.

Weight =/= strength. My ENVE wheels will outlast your AL wheels, guaranteed.

I'm no weight weenie but I am so tired of hearing about how these light weight bikes would disintegrate after one down hill "in my neck of the woods". Light weight parts are expensive because they are 1) in demand, 2) difficult to manufacture and 3) made of higher quality/modern materials. It's easy to make a part lighter. It is difficult to make a part lighter and just as strong as its "AM" counterpart. Some of the cheapie lightweight parts are going to break but most of those come from fleabay where you ultimately get what you pay for. How many sets of Enve wheels does Peaty go through in a season of DH I wonder?

    Canfield Nimble 9 Large 1x9 27.5lbs with 120mm fork and 780 bars.

On the blowing light xc bikes up you have to account rider weight in there. My roommate weighs 125lbs and ride 22-24 lbs XC bikes on the same trails I ride my bike and they live. But there is a 60lb weight difference between the two of us. Also he is a pro racer so his lines and skill make it so he can ride that bike.

On average, probably. But they can break - a friend of mine has done it. He's smooth, skilled, average sized, and meticulous about his gear but broke one with a pinch flat.

The gearing is 22x12 which is the same as 32x17 1.8 to 1.
