I've had one in use for several years, zero issues or complaints, but it is a loose ball system, just FYI. All high grade stainless, it looks and works as nice as the day I installed it.

That's a cool looking headset. It must be good for someone from NY to recommend it with a Steelers logo on it... (J/K...I know it's a steel workers logo... )

I just installed a Star headset a few days ago. It works ok but is not as smooth as the CK I had before...? Also the rubber seals inside the bearing cups are easily damaged during installation so you have to be very carefull when you install it.
I use the Crank Bros Opium SL... The CB's seem to have polarising opinions, people either love 'em or hate 'em. I'm in the former. I have really treated it with disdain over the past 4-5 months and it's not skipped a beat. Forget the Cobalt and go for the Opium. The weight penalty is minimal.
There are a couple of other euro HS' with low stack height such as Extralight and Tune but reports are you have to treat them with kit gloves.

Really? Odd, mine is super smooth. Is your head tube faced? It also might be a bit tight perhaps, of course, I'm saying this from the other end of a computer
How'd the seals come to harm, just curious, as they sit completely flush, and I've had mine apart a few times over the years for repacking, and never ran into an issue.

The rubber ring and brass ring inside the 2 cups just separated, the rubber ring came apart in a very strange way like it was very old or something....? Used a Park Tools headset press and it was a very tight fit. So I guess the damaged seals inside is what's causing the gritty feeling...?
Other than that it is very well made and the stack height is only 18.6 mm.
I ordered the Crankbrothers opium SL, Although I bought a 6" caliper and I will see if I can't make the Chris king fit first. King is sending me a low-profile baseplate or race. I think its the one that comes with their inset headset. They said it should take 1mm out of the stack height. I am also thinking about facing the top of the head tube a bit too if I'm close enough 1or2mm.
