Front wheel slipping

Hello,

My front wheel axle on the Karate Monkey sometimes slips and the wheel comes out of alignment causing the disc brakes to drag. The last time I was out I had to stop and re-adjust it 3 times, and I have the quick release pretty tight. I know this topic has been covered before but I couldn't find the right search words to find it. Has this problem been solved? The guy at the lbs was puzzled.

I imagine a good quality QR like a shimano would probably help you here.

a) Make sure you're dropouts are properly aligned... LBS should have a tool for this.

b) Try a different skewer.

I had to 'face' the dropouts on the fork, and I'm using salsa flip-offs, so far no more problems ...

Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't find a tool that faces dropouts in the link you provided. The only facing tool I found is one that faces disk brake tabs. Does it also work to face dropouts as well, or am I totally missing it?

My mistake... I did NOT mean 'dropouts' in my original post, I meant the disk brake tabs. One word, one big misinterpretation ... I faced the disk brake tabs and used am using a salsa skewer. whewww...

Sorry for that, now back to the regularly scheduled program.

I really wasn't trying to bust your balls. I just never heard of such a tool, and was curious why someone would want to remove material from the dropout (unless the faces on each side of a dropout weren't parallel to each other).

No, you weren't busting my balls and I didn't take it that way. I just latched on to the previous thread (aostys dropout comment) and didn't realize I wasn't talking about dropouts ... No worries, hopefully chris can ride safely (soon)...

...was the Hope tab facing tool? Did you order it directly from them?

I have all my tabs faced - nary a chime running my Minis. I always have my LBS do this though because the Maggie Nanomat is prohibitively expensive.

I was referring to this - to align the axle dropouts.

Jl was referring to facing the disc brake tabs.

Do you really need to face your disc tabs to make the brake work? I thought they came with shims for alignment.

Back to the OP's problem, what does disc tab facing have to do with front wheel slippage?

Edit: Never mind...I see it's dropout alignment. Just the same, as flexible as the fork and skewer are I wouldn't expect any benefit from a few degrees of alignment perfection. That looks like a tool for repairing crash damage or cold setting a frame.

Dude needs a knurled steel faced skewer like a Shimano at least, and I wouldn't be happy without horizontal dropouts or V brakes to boot.

I use only Shimano skewers because of possible axle slippage. I have had Salsas move.

The cams can wear and reduce clamping force.

Did you file off the fork's lawyer tabs? Keeping them is a good idea with disc brakes.

What are "lawyer tabs"? I haven't done anything to the fork but I got the bike used and I don't know if the previous owner did anything.

That looks fine. I have to unscrew to take the wheel off.
