Endurance Bike - Czar, Scalpel, Element, Superfly

I am looking for a light and fun endurance bike. I am considering the following:

    Cannondale Scalpel - Black Inc
    Turner Czar
    Rocky Mountain Element 999 RSL
Trek Superfly FS 9.9 SL (I have ridden it - so any comparisons to this would be really helpful)

I will have a similar build in all of them XTR/Carbon Rims (Czar would be different due to the limitations on XTR 2-ring cranks).

I have no opportunity to ride the boutique brands (local dealers within a couple hours have no demos or stock). If anyone has ridden 2 or more of the bikes, I would love to hear the pro's and con's.

Finally, I have searched and found some older posts (though no direct comparisons)...and I'm just hoping for some more folks to chime in.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, it looks like that is at least a 3 month wait (probably more)...unless I buy used.

Pivot 429 (120mm) or my favorite, the Czar.
    Pedal through it!

Out of them all...the Scalpel would be the weapon. Pivot 429c is even better....

Endurance Bike - Czar, Scalpel, Element, Superfly

Sold my Scalpel and bought a Czar last year. Very happy. My Czar is a little heavier, but I don't notice the weight. Rear suspension on the Czar is excellent.

Just curious - what led you to sell it? What do you prefer about the czar?

Most likely DW-Link. The Cannondale Scalpel rear suspension is nowhere as nice as a Giant Maestro or DW-Link.

This! DW link is far superior. Small bump compliance is good. Accelerates really nicely. I am very pleased with the bike.

I have demoed the Superfly, Element, Jet 9 RDO, Anthem, 429C, and TB2 looking to replace my DW link Flux. I wanted to try a brand other than Turner this time.

In the end - ordered a Czar based mainly on the suspension performance but also versatility and weight. The DW link is a stand out.

Still trying to decide (a good deal on Element has me debating). Has anyone compared the Element to the other choices (specifically Czar or Superfly)?

No, but I'll give another +1 to the czar, it's super rad.

I rode all three, and for my style of riding and objectives....the Superfly is a very capable Trail bike that can easily be built to XC race standards.

I went from a TB to a Czar this season and been very happy, I can't find any weaknesses with the design or build quality. DW believer now.

I have demoed the Element and Superfly with the most time on the Superfly and either one makes a capable xc/trailbike. The Czar has the best performing and most versatile suspension from my perspective and the only competing ride that I have tried was the 429c but with a weight penalty.

When narrowing down options, I find it best to throw more into the mix...

Consider an Ibis Ripley with 120mm fork? I just picked one up and that sucka is fast! Seems to fit the bill of what you're looking for from a purpose/geometry perspective but with +20mm in the back.

Size L is 25 lbs with Ibis carbon wheels and X01 build

    czar

i demoed Czar, 429, superfly and element.
In the end it was between the 429 and the Czar.
The superfly was nearly as nice to ride as the DW bikes, but it just didn't seem to have the quality for a privateer. I have a few friends that race them but they are sponsored and they have had quality issues with them.
the element (like my Vertex is a bit too short in the top tube for me) and didn't seem to absorb hits as well as the DW bikes.
so in the end it was easy coz I just loved the DW link.

the Czar v 429. Czar fit better and sort of had a more urgent feel in a sprint
I have raced the Czar now for 7 months and super happy. fits like a glove, is fast, handles drop offs and steeps really well. I also race a HT Vertex and really haven't used it much since i got the turner.

i did demo the Ibis but it defiantly was not a race bike. loved the rear end, but the Geo was too up right for me.It is a beautiful bike for trail riding and having some fun but not a competition bike. I am a short ass 5'6"and to get into a race position i would of needed the large.

I would vote for the Epic expert...I tried that and the scalpel....epic felt much more stiff and smooth. I bought mine for endurance rides so I went with 2x10 instead of a World cup with 1x11....I need more gears when I run out of gas!

Tried the Element(999RSL) and although very light - it still did not outperfrom the Scalpel. Here are my "personal test" rankings:

    1) Turner Czar
    2) Ibis Ripley
    3) Trek Superfly
    4) Pivot 429
    5) Santa Cruz Tallboy2
    6) Cannondale Scalpel
    7) Niner Jet9 RDO
    8) Rocky Mountain Element 999 RSL
    9) Specialized Epic
