Drank the Kool-aid...
and joined the Wagon-Wheel brigade. Just bought a Salsa El Mariachi and am stoked with it. Just have to find a sweet deal on a fork and a few other tidbits to get 'er together.
Build is going to be a little weird but sweet:
El Mariachi frame
Race Face Atlas bars
XT or SRAM cassette
Wheels are Salsa Semi rims with XT hubs
Tires tbd but probably Small Block 8s
Hope to find a fork locally tomorrow so I can get it together this weekend.
Cane Creek S3 is pretty much the standard Headset, Stem will be something to find you proper fit in the cockpit, tires I would stay away from the SB8s unless you are riding fireroad and very groomed singletrack (good upgrade would be the Slant Six).
Good luck with the build and post some pics once your done!!
Nothing wrong with the Kool Aid. I drank the whole pitcher and when SS rigid at the same time! You'll enjoy it.
Well, found a used GT Peace 9er fork and got it but think I'll use it for something else. I'm being bike "snobby" and am wanting nicer parts for my new bike. So it'll be a little while before I get it going.
Fwiw, I've used SmBlk8's on my local trails (NorCO) and love 'em. Not the best for wet stuff but I try staying away from our trails when they're muddy since the clay makes ruts that last forever.
