Did Marin ever make a 29er from Reynolds 853?

I looking at buying a used steel 29er hardtail and a guy offered me a Marin that is supposedly made from Reynolds 853. It has the decal on the seat tube but that doesn't mean much since they can be purchased on eBay.

I checked catalogs and I don't see that they ever used 853.

The frame details look similar to the current steel 29er, the Pine Mountain, which uses 4130 chromo.

I can try to post a picture later but can't do it from my phone.

If it fits you and it's a good deal, buy it. 853 or 4130 will make no difference in how it rides or how much fun you have.

The comments about tubing may or may not be true, but that is a discussion for another time and place.

I'm mostly just curious because I can't find the specific bike in any Marin catalogs and I would like to confirm geometry and also that the seller is being honest and hasn't slapped a Reynolds 853 decal on there.
