New question here. did I get a deal?

I just picked up a Marin rift zone XC8 frame for $100 at a local shop. THe frame is in good condition, no cracks or even scratches. I know I got a deal, but how much?

I took it too a trail, but the lack every part but the frame really hindered my ridding abilities. Someone suggested that I build the rest of the bike before I go ridding, so I started looking at parts. I am split in-between a Shimano XT 1*11 drive train. or a 3*10. what are the pro and cons of each?

1x11 ~ lighter weight, simple gearing with no overlap. Cons would be less gears which if you have long steep hills and not the strongest you might be walking.
2x10 or 3x10 ~ more gears with more overlap in gears. Cons higher weight. I personally love 2x10... I wouldn't mind 2x11 actually. I'm not the fittest person and having a few of the granny gears really helps on long or steep climbs. Adding the 3x really does me no good as I don't need the big ring as I don't street ride my mountain bikes although if you do then 3x would be a consideration... Personally I'd look at 2x10 vs 1x11 (especially since the new XT 1x11 coming out is a great price).

before ridding yourself of it, you should check out its riding capabilities
Grit, spit, and a whole lot of duct tape!

ebay prices are 2200 for a bike so it seems like a great deal. I like 1x10 so as long as 1x11 was about the same price I would do that.

I do like doing 1x10 using a 2x or 3x crank so I can add the other rings or use a bash guard.
