Can anybody tell me about Bikes Direct's Gravity 29ONE bike?

I know it's not top shelf, but all I want to know is if it's OK for non-aggressive mainly flat trail riding. Thanks in advance. i don't want to go any further that 6or 7 hundred dollars pricewise, and I plan to only use the frame for myself, and transfer the rest of the parts to other builds. Just want to get a small taste of a 29er full suspension. thanks a lot for your help.

Another thread ? The first one wasen't enough of a train wreck? If you want to avoid the pissing contest post in the Bikes Direct forum where every owner thinks they are the greatest thing ever and the deal was "too good to be true".

Did you try searching? There's another thread here with the exact same question and unanimous agreement from multiple posters.

Here it is: What do you guys think about Bikes Direct's 29ers?

I did post a thread in the Moto forum. I have more than one Moto 29er frame (for me & my wife).since they're 29er frames, I posted up here as well. This time I'm sking about One specific frame. I don't think everybody in the Moto forum thinks they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.people buy stuff for different reasons. For me, I was trying to spend as little money as possible, get different types of bikes, (hardtail, dually, ridgid, light, Clydesdale, etc., so Moto was the way to go for me for some of my builds. This info also helps mr to help some of my friends who want a halfway descent bike & don't have a lot of money.
Yep, folks buy bikes for many different reasons.
Everybody's bikes will be obsolete one day, no matter how good they are. We all buy what we can afford...and like.
Don't put Moto down. They have a place in the mountain bike community too.
The most important thing is to get out & ride.I don't disrespect anybody's ride.

I did not put all of them down just the one you are most likely to go out and buy and then come back and say how good it is. That frame design is from like 2000 to 2003 then it was more of a freeride type you can find them in the Haro Forum but for flat trail riding your going to bobalot!! on that bike you would be better off on a HT 29er SS that you could add gears to later.

and then I might be wrong!

Go for it, wish LBS had $500 bikes with decent parts but the guys there are going to sell what they got. I bought a Dawes Dead Eye on BD and upgraded it to 1X9 and other parts ect totaling 600 bones altogether. Best bike I have owned and at 32 lbs it crushes rocks and is stable downhill (still rigid) and gives me a good work out going up the three days a week I ride it. Unless you are close to an elite racer there is no real reason to purposely search for and buy a sub 30 lbs bike. If my bike gets dropped or stolen, god forbid, I am not out a months pay of work!

I'm curious as to why you want to try FS on "non-aggressive mainly flat trail riding." That seems like wanting a monster truck for a Sunday drive.

I think you'd be happier taking your $6-700 to your LBS and looking at hardtails. Heck, I think you'd be better off taking the same money to bikesdirect and buying a hardtail.

I did see a similar Santa Cruz bike earlier this morning on an ad right here on mtbr.com. i'm sure it can't be that bad, but will it hold a 250 pound Clydesdale? that's the BIG question.
What I REALLY REALLY want is a VOODOO CANZO for around $800, which is what I'll probably end up getting. I guess you just have to spend the money sometime.
...The only really sad thing is that i lost my foot and do not even know if I can ride at all.
I don't even want to think about it.
    Know what I mean?
As much as I love bikes, that would be enough to put me into some serious depression.
I have to get the Canzo painted though, because I can't have a bike in my household with the name "VooDoo" written on it. it just won't fly.I already got my VooDoo Zombie fork thrown out, and I know somebody who won't hesitate to throw my bike out too.(don't ask me who it is, I won't go there.) Weel, we'll see.

i have have 3 bikes which i bought from my lbs. trek soho fixi, santa cruz superlight and a specialized but with 3 kids i cant afford a 5000 mtb anymore. i have bmw taste with kia funds to buy..lol i am buying a 2012 mto ti29er with full xtr this spring. you can't beat the bd deals and if the frame brakes then you go buy a frame from the lbs and transfer all the parts and you are still ahead of the game!

In his other post he has all the parts,he wants to buy a 29 one and take the parts off and put on his wifes bike frame and put the parts he has on the 29one, coming from a place where I have done this for myself and other people there is Allways! unseen cost and you have to make sure everything is going to fit or it can cost you more in the long run.

J bold, I hear what your saying and I hear it all the time, but back when I was a kid I could get a 16oz coke and a candybar for quarter I think milk was like .79 for a gal. so now it cost you about $70.00 per hour to have your car fixed. I used to think it's just a bike, then I got into riding more & more and started working part time at a shop. I have to shop at the same food store as the guy that fixs my car.

Zarr, sorry to hear about the loss of you foot, we have been working with one guy that lost his leg up to the hip and he is riding about 4miles a day when the weather is good!..

Also I was on the hang-over ride in Palm Spring Ca. a few years back and there was a guy with a prosthetic from his knee down with a clipless attached, but the one the got my heart the most was when I was racing the 12 hours of Big Bear Ca. the guy that finshed in front of me missing a hand he had a clipless on the HB.

In 2005 two guys broke into my apartment it got real bad and my foreright got cut to the bone and the DRs told me that I would never race again and that my hand would not ever work enough to hold the HB and I will just be lucky if I can ride again. That was while living in Ca. I moved to MN and in 2006 I had to go on treatment foy my liver and I was only able to ride a little bit then I got better and better and I was racing again by 2008 and in 2010 I won my first 24 hour race and also got a 3rd place finsh that year.

Now that I know that you have a big Disability, to hell with what everyone is saying on here you talk with your DRs first!... But thinking in my head I don't think that riding a FS bike is going to make it easer becuse! the rear of the bike is going to compress and you are going to have to push harder and that will put more pressure on the leg & prosthetic. you might even be better off on a trike type bike.

Moto's seem to be decent bikes. If your mind is set (sounds like it) grab it. Some of my friends ride them and love them. They have also upgraded them buying parts from the local LBS.

The world does not revolve around Santa Cruz, Pivot, Yeti, and Ibis (and other overpriced bikes). Alot of those bikes are made in the SAME factory as the Moto bikes. Some of these companies are totally screwing you guys selling pedal bikes in excess of $5000 bucks, yet people continue to flame Moto bikes.

I personally wouldn't buy one; because I prefer to build.

I was planning to strip the 29ONE down & use the frame for myself & the rest of the parts for other builds.

Well, the trails won't be ALL flat.I don't like LBS.Mainly because they don't care about me.just about how much $ I have in my pocket.I have a can of Drano at home near my sink.

    Donno.
But if you look at this thread which talks about ONE bike, and the other that talks about more than one bike, you may see different.Somestimes I have to try to find my way through the darkness before I find the lightswitch.
    Feel me?

I do have 5 other bikes that I have purchased at different places- always buy consumables
at LBS I love to ride different bikes but I am never riding with more than a $600 bike underneath my butt. Also, if some LBS were upfront with what would be a good ride for a new rider or older rider, or recreational rider I wouldn't have my buddies with lower back problems, neck aches ect. because of banging around on a racing rig (on or off road). 15 lbs. bike, 120 psi, 23c tires, 10 speed, 11 speed, 12 speed, titanium, carbon everything blah blah blah I hear from shops and guys at coffee on Sat morning. You know the drill....It would be refreshing to hear someone say "maybe your bike is too light"....or..."why don't you buy a cheaper bike that is more comfortable"

Yeah! you don't get the part that not all bike shops are bad and not all people can ride all that good. I learned to ride when I was 5 and started racing at age 13 and that was motorcycles & bicycles and to this day there are and I have seen people pass me while I was on my mtb and they where on a cross bike. Oh and I do also have a $600.00 bike that's worth $300.00 but that's the price we pay!

Keep in mind if you go with the voodoo and have the frame painted the warranty is void. I have a broken canzo sitting in my basement for that reason.

Is there a specific travel frame your looking at? There are some good deals on the Salsa Spearfish floating around...

Did you see that Spearfish (I don't like that name either.Somebody needs to post up a thread of all the weird names for some bikes- like the Kona Stinky De Luxe.)for $1,000,000?
Nah, I' might just ride my rigids an hardtails til a killer deal drops.

    Final Decision

I appreciate you guys that are trying to steer me in the right direction, and I'm not stupid enough to make wrong decisions at this point in my mountain biking life.
    Thanks to you all.
I have decided to stay with the hardtail frames I have now and just wait til a real good deal comes along for a 29er squishy. If this Access XCL 9r frame I got last year ($95 shipped- got one for my wife too), and I put the parts I listed in my previous thread on it), I KNOW I'll be good to go. It is a very nice frame(nice & light},ridden by some very well respected members of our tribe here at mtbr.
    So there it is.
    I win...We win. Again.
Score another point for our team.
    Thanks again.And again
