Brand new to mountain biking i have a choice between two bikes what do I buy.

I can buy a brand new trek X-caliber 6 29" wheels hard tail for $869 out the door or a 2008 diamond back mission one like new full suspension 26" wheels for $600 cash. The question is do I buy the trek hard tail or the full suspension? Keep in mind I'm new to biking.

Basically what I'm asking is would you rather have the trek hard tail or the diamond full suspension. I know nothing about the diamond backs. I have no idea if they are a good bike.

Try them both, depends on your riding ability, terrain and so on. Also depends on condition of the bike. If you're just starting out hard tail will make you better rider and I'm not sure I would trust a sub $1000 full suspension bike a lot more to go wrong (pivot points, rear shock)

So? It's only worth $520 in good condition. It has a 6 or 7 year old drive train which probably needs to be replaced, the brakes may need the fluid flushed, the fork and shock may need servicing too. You may end up dumping a lot of money on top of the $600.
