Bikes Direct - any decent sub $1000 29ers

Bikes Direct - any decent sub $1000 29ers

    29er Mountain Bikes | Full Suspension 29er | Hardtail 29er Mountain bikes | Titanium 29er Mountain Bikes | Singlespeed 29er Bikes

    Looking for a long reach top-tube (I am 6'-4") over 61cm.

As long as the frame is decent, I am OK with components that need to be upgraded later.

Has anyone ridden one of these 29ers and loved the frame? I assume they just knock-off the geometry from a known bike and build them in China.

So far from what I've read people normally go the opposite way. Buy the BD bike because the spec for price is good and eventually swap stuff to a new frame.

That's what I read, I have no personal experience.

Yes, that being said here's the lowest I'd go with BD 29er HT...$1099: Save up to 60% off new Mountain Bikes - MTB - Motobecane Fantom 29PRO

I'd take wheels to LBS for pre-ride trueing, ride the s*** out of it, maintain it, and upgrade as it breaks/wears out.

    Airborne Bicycles. Guardian

Comes in a 22" frame and gets great reviews. Much more personable company to deal with.

Found a large Motobecane Ti Fly 29er frame on Ebay and built it up - run me about $1500 to build it with Shimano XT component group and a few other goodies (27 lbs. total)........if you can find a frame, maybe build it with some lesser component groups until you're ready to replace parts..........to me, I buy for the frame and make everything else work right.............

How does the Motobecane Ti Fly 29er ride? Are the Ti tubes double-butted?

The problem I have with the Motos is the lack of a tapered HT and fork, no way I'd be spending money on something built "now" using old tech, which is why they're so cheap. Airbourne Goblin is a much better deal, that you get the "latest" tech on.
