    advice for first 60km ride

About to attempt my first 60km ride. Its all flat and will be 90% on roads. First time ill be riding on a highway with a speedlimit of 110km and plenty of road trains. Im giving my self 4 hours to be happy with my effort but even if it takes 6 it just doing it is going to be awesome.

any advice for a newbie wanting to push himself.(longest ride to date is 35km but that was all uphill)

See if you can get one of these: Mt.Zefal Side Mirror. Attaches to your handlebar. Invaluable when sharing the road with cars, buses and trucks.

    Bring lots of water.

In my area there is a 6 mile/10k loop around a lake in a park. So limited access. Good roadies ride in groups or individually on the road and others use the bike/rollerblade/walking path. Multiple loops add up.
Check with your lbs about something like that where people are safer.
    If not,
Pick a low traffic flow time.
Choose the sidewalk where available until you're comfortable with traffic flow.

I took my singlespeed for a 60km ride last weekend. Didn't have breakfast or eat anything but then again I'm used to skipping breakfast anyway.

If you're used to eating before a ride, go ahead.

I just took my time tho. Long slow distance.

Its the main highway connecting adelaide(capital of South australia) to the yorke peninsula. Going to drive out there this weekend to see if its safe to ride. Have driven that road 1000 times but never looked for a bikelane or how wide the shoulder is. Might not be safe for bikes

There is a shoulder(surfaced and not a car lane) approx 1 metre wide which looks to run the whole length of where i want to ride 😊

You could also check local bike forums and see other people's riding experience there.
