Did you ask them to price match? While they may not do free shipping internationally, do they do shipping internationally at all?

Jenson do ship internationally, of course. They were substantially cheaper on the headset, but not so much the rest of my order. CRC don't price match I believe. If they do, I've just wasted $50, but hey whatever.

How's your On-One? Mine is the parts donor for this build!

Absolutely love the Purple People Eater (my Inbred)... Can't have asked for a better bike and it will still be my XC race machine and commuter. I may look at going with a carbon fork for it while she is in commuter duty and then moving the Tower Pro back over when I have someone that wants to borrow it or I don't feel like taking the FS bike with me. But for now she is pulling double duty and I will always enjoy riding her.

But Jenson will price match CRC. I just ordered a set of XT brakes from Jenson and they price matched CRC. Depending on shipping, you may or may not have saved some money. I guess it's too late now but for future reference.

He is on the other side of the pond from us, so CRC is local for him.

Right, but we buy from CRC to save money here in the US...if Jenson or anyone else can match or beat his local prices, depending on shipping, he may save some pounds by ordering from our side. Always worth a few minutes of browsing if it'll save some cash.

What I'm saying is that Jenson were substantially cheaper on the headset than CRC. So no point getting a price match. But CRC ship to Australia for free, whereas the American options don't as far as I know, and the shipping is of the expensive couriered variety. Have used Jenson before though, great service.

Just my .02, and I know this will require a new group. But I'd at least go to a 10 speed setup if you can.

Why do you think I'll need a new group? I was hoping that the 1x9 setup would be sufficient.

If you went to a 10 speed you'd need new stuff. But if you're content with 9 than by all means keep it.

I won't know if I'm happy 'til I ride it, but it's worth the risk. Don't hugely want to blow another $500 on drive train when I have all the bits already.

The thing I've been assuming about 10speed and 11speed is that it's just a way to prise more money from my pocket. If I replace my 1x9 with a 1x10/11 drivetrain, I only get more gears to choose within broadly the same range?

    Or am I wrong?

I'm a stand and mash kind of rider, so a robust chain is something I appreciate.

Thanks all for the advice. Progress is being made:

I think silver was the right way to go, and CK was the only option I could find online. I've found them a bit too 'bling' for my taste in the past, but with the top inset I think it looks good.

    Looking really nice!

I like the silver as well. When I built my ti 29er up, I chose the pewter colored thinking it would match better than the silver but was wrong. What wheelset is going on the bike?

Mavic Crossmax. There's a pic in my first post.

Currently struggling to seat Schwalbe tyres on them. In the past I've used UST tyres with the big fat beads. Seems 'tubeless ready', while lighter, is a whole lot harder to use.
