    2015 Trek Marlin 6 or 7?

Looking to buy a new bike and I have pretty much narrowed it down to the Marlin 6 and 7. Either one is going to be a huge leap over the 22 year old Giant Prodigy I've been trying to use as a MB.

One LBS person recommended the 7, but another said 6. Looking for some advice/opinions on this. Are the rim and crank upgrades from the 6-7 worth the extra $100? Thanks.

Unfortunately neither model has a fork with rebound damping.
You have to get to the X-Cal with hydraulic lockout HLO to get that feature.
It is useful when you go beyond the bike paths and dirt roads to trails with lots of bumps and some speed. It cuts the pogoing.
There is a $200 upgrade Raidon air fork from Suntour if you want to upgrade later.

Yeah, wish the fork had lockout/rebound damping, but will probably upgrade. So, Marlin 6 or Marlin 7 for $100 more?

Probably worth it. Try to get that $100 off.

The extra $100 gets you double wall rims, upgraded crank, 9sp rear cassette and a 180mm disc up front.

I'm currently saving up for an X-Cal 6 for the lockout fork and other upgrades over the Marlin 7. Seems to be the better buy and was advised this by an LBS employee. If their spring sale prices were any indication, the X-Cal 6 can be had for $700 or less.
