2013 Trance 29er Stem Size
Hi MTBR, I was wondering what short stems are you guys running? I read somewhere that Giant uses a special size thus having to buy only Giant Stems (ie carbon stem) . Is it true? If not what stem are you guys running? The stock one is a bit too long for my taste.

Talk with your Giant dealer. They will be able to hook you up easier than most. The stem uses a 1.25" steerer clamp. There are other brands that make these, it will just take some searching. You didn't say which model you had, the X29er 2 does not use the Overdrive 2 headset/stem so your problem would be moot, if that is the model you own.

Hi Foe, thanks for the quick reply! Yes I own the x29er 2.

SF, do you mind explaining to me what Giant does to put a standard tapered stem into the OD2 headset? Is there a collar, or do they just use a different headset?
Cheers

Different top bearing to the headset. The head tube is the same outside diameter on all the Giant tapered HT bikes.
