    2013 Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er

REI has a sale for $850 going on right now down from $1,000. Component wise it can't be beat by other big brands. Would this bike be good on trails? What make a bike trail worthy? Is it mainly the fork? With the money I'm saving up front I can always upgrade the fork later if it doesn't suit my needs. I am 210lbs and will probably go down under 200lbs once I start riding. Will that fork suit me? Any other opinions on the bike?

Closest bike to this is a '13 Giant Talon 29er 1 at $900. Looks like the fork and components are a notch better on the DB. It almost compares to Talon 0 component wise. Same fork too.

The components on that bike are not any better than any of the other bikes in that price range sold through REI. I had a DB Overdrive and always thought the frame felt cheap.
Low speed accident proved it resulting in a bent frame.

Replaced it with a Marin Bolinas Ridge and have been much happier.

In that exact Price point at REI
Marin Bobcat Trail, Raleigh Talus and Novara Ponderosa all have better components and I would venture to say a better frame. The Novara has the best components of all but the Marin would probably be my choice as I have had good luck with mine.
I would buy all three over the Diamondback.
Just stick it in granny and start grinding.

Thanks for the insight. Being new to MBs I don't know much about frames. All I can do is compare components. I'm going to test ride the other ones.

Just curious what does the SR Suntour Raidon-LO Air 29 compare to in the RockShoxx lineup?

The Raidon is a good low maintenance ari fork at 5lbs. Next best RockShox is Recon Gold air at 1.2lbs. less weight. Currently 240 at Random Bike Parts.

I had the 2012 DB Comp, it was matte silver with black graphics. It was actually a very impressive bike. I paid $400 for it on black friday, and so I replaced the front fork with a Rockshox TK gold fork for $230. That XC 32 is a crap fork, also heavy, the TK Gold was very impressive, felt just like a REBA. I enjoyed the DB comp, it was a great hard tail. It didn't feel cheap to me. I had a large, and I weigh about 215 without a pack. It held up quite well. Components are decent but for the price I wasn't complaining. I like the bike.
