    $800 29er for a 6'6" beginner rider.

Who makes the best bike out there for that price point?

The Airborne Guardian at 675 is an option.
Others with a Suntour fork need the upgrade fork you can see a thread on in Beginners.

Trek Marlin maybe? Or Kona Mahuna, my friend owns an lbs and he sells the mahuna for $699. I actually think its pretty decent for the price and the xl if I'm not mistaken has like a 25.5" TT which should work for you with a long stem.

22" Kona Unit. You can upgrade it as your skill level progresses. But before that happens you might realize that the simplicity of a rigid SS is hard to beat!

+1 on the Felt Nine 70. Great bikes that handle awesome and are built solid.

    Can't go wrong.

Hmm. At 6'6", I doubt you're a light weight guy, so you want to avoid all the low end Suntour suspension stuff. The fork simply won't last you very long. That sort of leaves you three options in my book. Buy a rigid bike (there's been one suggestion for a single speed, I won't make any more), save some extra money and get something with a better fork, or buy something like Silentfoe suggested with the Revel 0 but understand ahead of time, you'll want to use the Suntour upgrade program very soon to put a better fork on that bike. If you step up to, say the $1100 Talon 0 it has a low end RS fork on it that's more durable.

I got my 2012 Marin Bolinas Ridge for $499 on clearance.
Love the bike and ride the hell out of it.

The 2013 can be bought for $699 at REI.

The 2013 comes with better brakes but a cheaper fork.
Nice bike but I would definitely upgrade the fork right away on the 2013.
However, any bike that comes with a suntour fork can be upgraded cheaply through suntour for $175 to the Raidon.
Just stick it in granny and start grinding.
