New question here. Thinking of going B6er...

I recently got a new fork(2012 fox float36 kashima lowered to 140) for my gt distortion.

Now I used to run a 2.5 nev front which is massive measured out to 27.2. I love the way that tire tractored of everything but it is ***** to pedal.
Ive decided i'm either going to raise my fork back to 150mm or get 650 wheel like a wtb i23 and run a high volume 2.3ish(suggestions ?) I'll get the nicer roll over with a faster slightly narrower 650b tire..
I have burgtec ti offset shock bushings already on my bike so I can pretty much neutralize any HA and SA change that comes with the taller 650b wheel plus Ill get a smidge more ground clearance as it has low BB barely @13 inches. As I live in North van ground clearance is much appreciated.

Ive got a wheel in my online shopping cart virtually built
20mm red hope pro2evo wtb i23 and double butted black dt spokes
    Am I nuts?

Might want to confirm the 2012 36 has clearance, I know they changed the lowers sometime around 2012-13.

Did the same thing to my 2011 ReignX, with i25 rims, 27.5 front and 26 back. The exercise was mainly for the tubeless compatibility but it also slacked it out nicely (64.5-65 depending on tyres) and dropped a bit of rotating weight.

NB. I did find a Hans Dampf 2.3 27.5 had naff all clearance at the fork brace - worked ok but the sound of stones pinging off the brace got old. Much clearance better with a Minion DHR2 2.3 (5-6mm), although it's quite a bit smaller tyre (6mm narrower casing).

Most of my bikes are B6. Hardly notice 27.5 on the rear. Up front it gives you a lift in stability and cornering traction.
2012 should be fine. if your going back up to 150 upgrade to a 2013 or 2014 air cartridge, negative plate and 150 shuttle bumper. It's pretty cheap, a 5 min job and makes it a more linear fork.
HD 2.35 is as good as it gets as an all-rounder. Pacestar or performance if you want more speed.IMHO adequate for most conditions since the edge tread is already quite flexible and grippy.

Perhaps it might be worth trying the 26x2.35 Hans Dampf up front anyway? While I understand that Nevs are great in that part of North America, we still call them Never-rolls for a reason.

What year and model is that fox fork. I had thought for running a minion 2.3. Or a trail king but not sure of size in a TK that would fit.
Mine is a 2012 but my suspension guy said according to my serial number my lowers might be 2011.
    I caved and bought a 650b wheel from crc. I got wtb i23 rim dt DB spokes,hope pro2evo 20mm.
I really hope this works out , just need the right tire...

Nice bike I wouldn't mind picking up a reign my self and running B6.IMHO wheel size debate itself makes stuff all difference on Rotorua trails though, too hardpacked and tight. I'm happy with my meta 6 26" for Rotorua.
I can tell by your slightly different arch design that you have at least a 2013. I can see what you mean about stone buzz if you''ve only got 2mm. Those HD's are the worst for picking up stones. HD 2.25 would also give you about 6mm. I run one on my Marz 55 CR.

Here's mine with a 2.35 Evo NO NI which is slightly taller than my HD 2.35.From memory it is at least 6mm clearance on the crown and arch.

2011 Float 36 + HD 2.35 Evo Trailstar tubeless (25psi) on WTB i25 = 2mm clearance. Liking the performance of the Minion DHR2 2.3, which has much the same clearance as your NN 2.35 in the pic above, so not bothered the HD didn't work out... it's a monster tyre.

Going to Rotovegas in two weeks time for a few days...

Can't till the wheels shows up... I found some hd 2.35 trail stars on craigslist...
Yesterday I rode my first black diamond trail. It was Ned's atomic dustbin on the north shore. Classic rocky rutted Dh trail wet as hell and very exciting. A 650b would do well there..

    Thinking of going B6er...

I have now about 5 rides on the b6er set up . Today i rode espresso a black diamond trail on Mt Fromme on the shore.
Really liking this setup ,I definitely notice the nicer roll over and smoother ride. I do notice I can't whip the front end sat fast as I used to so that is taking time to get used to.
The fork is working fine with the wheel no problems getting rocks stuck or mud clogging. I am using a marsh guard style fender and still have adequate clearance.
Really liking the dhf 2.3 up front on i23 rim. Seems solid and makes me want wider bars.? for some reason
