simple 26 650b 29er question
as far as going in straight line over bumps, rocks and roots
is a 140mm/140mm 26er = 132mm/132mm 650b = 120mm/120mm 29er?
all else in the way of appropriate geometry and equivalent wheels and tires being equal
29er, it's not about suspension as much as the angle at which the tire hits the obstacle. But that's a simplification of the question. The rider makes the most difference.
I know I am going to sound like a jerk, but the wheels can't be equivalent even if you are talking about the same brand or even the same weight.

The 29er roll over capability and momentum conservation compared to the 26 is undeniable. The ability of the 29er to hold a line through bumpy rocky rooty track because of the larger wheel inertia is something I certainly appreciate. The price I pay is in acceleration due to the larger mass of the wheel/tire of the 29er being a larger distance from the wheel center (this I can definitely feel), not to mention the weight cost between the wheels/tires. Another tradeoff is that the same inertia that makes the 29er hold a line makes it more difficult to change direction compared to the 26.
My own feelings about advantages/disadvantages of the 29er relative to the 26 relate to the strength of the rider. A fit, athletic rider that can put out a lot of power may not even notice the the acceleration problems with the 29er and feel there is no down side to that wheel size.
I should also mention the stability of the 29er wheel size makes it feel "safer" compared to the 26.
All this trade-off stuff is why I am interested in the 27.5 as a 'compromise'.
