    Santa Cruz Bronson

I checked out the new DirtRag at B&N today...

The new SC bike, which was due to be announced on April 1st, is the Bronson. 2 page add on the inside cover/page1.

650b, 150mm travel, VPP, carbon or aluminum options.

Looks a lot like my blur LT

i actually think it has been a very well kept secret.... considering you cant find anything on the web about it...

i am super excited about this bike, I hope it is 150mm as said above. to me that is the only bummer about the burner is that it is 140mm.

I saw a couple at Tamarancho in Fairfax, CA. Yes, they were 150mm travel. One was orange and black and the other one was lime green and black. Very nice looking bikes.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of a new bike name. Reading or talking about the LTc, BLTRc, TBLT, is getting way too confusing. I for one can't wait for the new rig...I even have my kit ready to bolt on and ride!

I'm with you. I was second-guessing my decision to buy a TRc frame and building it up as a 650b, as I'd prefer a similar frame that's 650b-specific. At 150mm I have no interest in the Bronson, and I'm happily starting to build up my frame!

Same here. My 650b TRc has all the travel I need, and I love its geometry. I'm sure a lot of people will dig the Bronson, though, and it will be a great all-mountain/enduro type bike.

    Because they arent.

You could put a 650b wheel/tire into a Nomad frame, not even tightened in the dropout, and I'd believe it more than these rumors.

I'm willing to bet they do a Trail in 650b as well, based on the amount of interest and conversions out there. It would follow suit with their approach to the 29" market as well.

Ummmm...it's a known fact the new bike is for sure a 650b bike. He'll I started a thread in dec. in the Santa Cruz forum when my lbs who is good freinds with a rep told him they had a 650 bike coming.

And on that note I've heard that trek is working on a 650 bike as well.

After a few test rides on 650's and having owned and sold, a 29'r, the 650 size, for me at least, seems to work very well for where and how I ride.

For someone who said this thread is dumb, you posted 3 times...

Probably not just a rumor if they paid for a 2 page ad in a national publication...but carry on believing whatever you like.
I think the Rag was't supposed to hit books stores yet, at least not until after the April 1 release date.

There will be a Bronson and a Bronson c, right?

IIRC, the Tall Boy lt was introduced 4/1/12.

If there is a Bronson 27.5 introduced 4/1/13, and it is to 27.5" what the Tall Boy lt is to 29", the Bronson c will likely be my next bike.

I've been sitting on the fence for a few months now. I want a trail bike closer to 25lbs than 30lbs. I don't need 160mm like many of the new 27.5" bikes, and prefer 140mm. But if the 150mm Bronson c comes in at 25lbs, it is much skinnier than the 140mm Jamis pro or 140mm Norco Sight a -- both Alloy-- so I'll take it gladly. Plus I don't think have to rob a bank like I would to get a Rocky Mtn. Altitude 790 msl or a Scott Genius 700 sl

    We'll soon see.

this is killing me, i am really sucked into all this bronson hype... i keep checking for updates, but alas it is just people like me posting with no information or pics... doh. I am completely sold on 275, if I can afford it and the geo looks decent it will be my next bike. I do wonder about availability tho, I wonder how many they made.....

I'm actually in the market for a carbon hardtail. I'd buy a Santa Cruz carbon hardtail in a hearbeat, but it looks like Jamis is getting the nod.

I don't doubt that it will be a 650b platform, and likely be 150mm full suspension.

What pisses me off is people who say they've seen pictures in magazine of the bike. Not just a 2-page ad of a distant bike at Syncline. They don't post cell phone pictures or anything.

OR, another theory could be that he didn't care enough to take a pic in the middle of a book store, go home, load it on his computer and post in a forum...
Maybe, he was just pointing it out for anyone who doesn't normally even look at Dirtrag, who might be interested in the much rumored new SC bike.

    Santa Cruz Bronson

Went to my LBS Santa Cruz dealer ths p.m. He said he has heard zip from Santa Cruz about the Bronson. Also told me that if it is announced on 4/1 no bikes will be available to ride for months.

He reminded me that I already have 2 27.5" bikes, a 26'er SS, but no 29'er. So he made a hard sales pitch for me to get a Tall Boy carbon, only question is whether LT or not b

Your sarcasm meter is broken. I don't think any forum readers thought you don't own a cell phone. People probably either think you are lying, or were too lazy to take a pic of of the 'much rumored new SC bike'.

I was betting on the latter, so thanks for confirming that.

Dont think thatīs a dual crown. Itīs a fox fork for sure. But itīs not 40mm. As the picture says 650b it is probably a Fox 34 @140, 150 or 160mm.

The picture link says 650b because I named it that. That isn't how SC named it.

It doesn't look like a dual crown to me either. That piece between where the sun don't shine (in this case does ) looks far too offset from the rest of the fork.

Fork is a Fox 34 Float CTD 160.

I love the "B" size (frame incoming te he) but would not rule out a 29'er as well in the arsenal.

Yes... that's the fork on the new SC bike.

Fox has also developed a new 650b 32 Float CTD 140, but it's not in production yet. Probably won't show up until later this year or early next. As soon as Fox can deliver the 140 in quantity, SC will have a 650b bike to go with it. That's the one I'm waiting for.

Yes but weather not permitting right now. We've still got plenty of snow covering the trails here. We're a good month away from reasonably dry riding. I will definitely demo the TB on familiar terrain and if it clicks, might end up buying one. We'll see.

Maybe for your dealer . . . I can say with certainty that this is definitely not the case with all dealers, particularly the high volume dealers. SC ain't no dummy . . . they've learned from their mistakes.

Only 4 more days or so. I'm not eager to purchase a bike with that much travel, but it should be interesting to see what they are coming out with.

I'm more curious about those 650b Scott Sparks Nino and Florian were riding at the Cape Epic race.

If we do see a 650b Nomad or something similar, it will be a factory prototype. If someone was riding this thing out in the wild we'd know about it, we'd see a side shot or "650B" printed on the sidewall or something.

Look at the all-mountain Trek 29er that was spotted, and although that's nothing special, if a 650B Santa Cruz was floating around you'd probably know it. You'd see it on the back of someones car or Santa Cruz would have a viral campaign that "sneaks" identifying features of the bikes into media.

The "Now for something completely different" could even be reference to their APP suspension design: as seen here: Santa Cruz Bicycles COMPANY

I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but I'm ever the skeptic.

For a 650b bike, I want 140 or 150mm not 160 mm. I have a Jamis, which at 140mm I like a lot. It's just that I would prefer trail bike travel with XC bike weight, and will pay the price for the carbon frame that gives that. I'm hoping that the Bronson is that bike.

If it is not, or turns out to be only a rumor, then my temptation is cave to peer group pressure and buy a Tall Boy c @ 120mm as a burly XC bike and keep the Jamis.

I do continue to subscribe to the dogma that 29" is best for XC; that either 29" or 27.5" are good for trail and that AM/Enduro, FR, and DH do now or will belong to 27.5"

Ditto to this! While they're at it, if they could actually make it the Weirwolf (better tire all around, IMO) that'd be swell. Mkaythanksbye.

Yeah, what is wrong with you people? Don't you believe me, a random internet person? I saw two Bronsons at Tamarancho a month ago. (For those of you who don't know, Tamarancho is in Fairfax CA, about 2 hours north of Santa Cruz). I can tell you the guy said they had 150mm travel, one was orange and black and the other one was lime green and black. Looked nice and burly. Running meaty tires (Hans Dampf?), carbon Enve rims, and SRAM XX1.

It's real. Believe it or don't.

Given the recent slip by a well-known shop, I don't think that there's anybody (who's been following this and the other thread) left in the dark on this one . . .

Well, they're getting the website ready. It should be slotted in the "All Mountain"" section. Right now the link below will re-direct you back to the home page. This has only worked for the last couple of days. Type in anything else besides "bronson" in the URL and you will get an error message Type this into your browser without the quotes: "www.santacruzmtb.com/bronson/"

Found this on their site, its small though

It looks like their html has a spot for carbon and for an aluminum version

    Carbon $2699
    5.3 lbs
    5.9" travel

    Aluminum $1925
    6.8 lbs
    5.9" travel

These look to be the links, but they aren't live yet

Those Blue ENVE logo's are not doing this bike any favors . . . . looks better with the paint matched logos, but I'd still prefer a more muted look. Given the HINTS of blue on the DT, I wonder if the logo on the other side is blue. That'd be sweet if the color scheme was different on each side of the bike!

Anyone notice the DT and CS protectors?

And check out the new headtube badge!
