    2011 Scalpel

    Thanks in advance

(I got the worst case of upgrade-itis)

Epic. The Scalpel has no brain.

    Doh!
Yes, but its that kind of stupid simplicity that I'm attracted to.

Epic is way more versatile and rides way better. Geo wins the day here...

Looking for any 650b wheels for the new Scalpel? The wheels from mine may be available.

Hard to say. I have a feeling I will end up building them. I will be getting rid of the Lefty also.
    ...three bolt cranks anyone?

No Lefty? Isn't that one of the best things about the bike?

I second that. Why get rid of the Lefty? It's not just the Lefty either is all the integration that you'll be giving up. The front of that bike as set-up is super stiff. The head tube is huge. Let alone you'll be adding weight as well.

Neither...I have a Santa Cruz Blur carbon xc, its bada$$. If I had to pick between the two, the Scalpel would be it.

I know, I know... Leftys are light, better than the haters say, and people like them, but Im not a fan.

I may regret my decision, but at least it will pay for itself. Im likely going to use a 1.5" Velvet, unless I can get a deal on a Fox. (tell me how bad of an idea this is)

I know that Im going to add weight, but I'll try to keep it under control.

    Thanks for the input

Although, I dont use a Lefty on my Santa Cruz, I do run a Lefty on my Bianchi singlespeed. I'm a fan of the Lefty.

All voters, just to weigh your opinions: How many of you rode both of the two bikes mentioned in the OP, or close facsimiles thereof?

Curious because I'm interested in the same choice. OK for over 200# rider, XL frame?

I had 08 Spec Epic Expert Carbon, which IMO had too little tire clearance for 650b (otherwise I would have kept it).

I have never ridden a 650b Scalpel, but from the pics I have seen it is pretty tight in the back. My aluminum Epic has plenty of room for 650b. I believe the carbon chainstays are tighter on the S-works.
