Thanks for the backcountry tip. $200 is about as much as I want to pay for a Fox or Suntour fork. Just need something that kinda works until the Mattoc is available.

Anybody know if they can be converted to lever ctds instead of remote and where to get the parts from? They don't ship to New Zealand :-(

I know PUSH removes the CTD and replaces it with a high and low speed compression dial. I'm not sure if you can buy it seperate though.

Another $230 turns them into a 2014 Talas. $430 for a 2014 non-Kash Talas is still a great deal. Also, if you get it through Comp Cyclist you can just return it no questions asked.

Anyone know if the fork could be extended to 160mm if converted to a Float?
And how much for the CTD upgrade?
I bought from Comp. Cyclist a few days ago for $399. Hasn't even arrived yet.
Guess I'll go for a refund on the difference or just return it.

    Fox 34 Talas 27.5 150mm. $200

That is just unreal!! I HAD to order one at that price. I'll either sell it at profit later, or build a budget 27.5 if I can find more deals on cheap 650b parts

(Edit: said 152 left when I ordered)

To get it to New Zealand just use a freight forwarder. I use MyUs.com for these things.

$200 gets you the F34 chassis, that's how you have to look at it. I can get an Avalanche upgrade and have more fork than I will ever need for less than half of what a Pike costs. This price point opens up a lot of possibilities.

Even if I didn't need one, I would have probably ordered one since you can't even get a set of lowers for that price.

Somebody should probably start a "Fix my $199 Talas thread." I assume these are OEM overruns and if there is any difference in these and aftermarket. I want to run mine at 160mm to go with the NS Soda frame I ordered. I'm hoping it will make a fun, short CS all day trail bike.

It's suppose to be cold and rainy for a few days so its going to be a "get smart on Fox forks" weekend. The wife is not going to be happy.

There are several other retailers on the internet selling these for the same price. Competitive is one of them...

Well, you need to make sure the bike has a head tube which will take the fork and the travel of the fork is suited for the travel of the bike, otherwise the geometry will be off.

Well I'm in the market for a 2014 model (bike), so they're all going to have tapered head tubes. Was more thinking along the lines of would this work on a giant with their OD2 stuff.

If not a giant, a lot of the 27.5" bikes I've been evaluating (price point driven) come with Fox 32s. This would be a very nice upgrade.

Just got some info back from Dave Warner at Fox Customer Service:

...we could convert your Talas to a float for around $60 and it would be around another $65 for the 2014 internals upgrade. The talas 5 cartridge is around $260 by itself.

    $320 is not too shabby for a '14 34 Float 150 CTD

Oh yeah, picked up a 2nd one to sell

I was planning on doing that or for $230 upgrading to 2014 Talas (the weight penalty is less than I thought Float vs Talas). I'll ride it for a while as is and see how much I use the travel adjust and if the 2013 is as bad as its rep.
    What about the Kashima upgrade?

Meh, all reports are the Kash coat doesn't add much to the performance in terms of smoothness, and I keep a pretty good eye on lube oil (I use 20/50 motor oil), so I'm not bothering w/ Kash upgrade. But you'd be looking at a new CSU...what like $270 ish?

Def. not worth $270. For the Float upgrade, do you have to send the fork to Fox or do they just send the parts and you do the swap yourself?

    Dunno. Ask: dwarner@ridefox.com

BTW, if you haven't gotten one, last check there were only 2 left.

Pau11y, that was the info I was looking for and just picked up another one. This is where deals get expensive.

The 2014 Talas is 130/160 and that is what I want. Hopefully these can do that.

Nah, sell one, and use the profits to fund your upgrade

I'm gonna see if someone wants to order me a pair of these in trade for my 2nd fork

I ordered mine around 9am, must of been one of the last ones I don't even need it but too good to pass up lol. Would be a perfect candidate for a PUSH upgrade (hi/low speed)

I bought my 2nd one from CC at 1230 and they only had a few left. A few minutes later they where gone. I also had one in my cart at Backcountry and they had 50+ left. Maybe they will show up again. Maybe someone got smart and realized you could get a 2014 F34 Talas for <$500 or a Float for less than a RS Recon.

Where did you get those figures. I just got off the phone with Fox and it's going to cost me about $250 to get the 2014 Fit CTD damper and $104 for the Float conversion.
I wanted to go to 160mm so I don't know if that was the difference in cost. Still a good deal ( less than $600) for a basically 2014 34 Float 160 fork.

I'm interested in this too. For me Float (non FIT) > Talas. 160 > 150. What will it take?

Edit: Just got "shipped" notification so no misprint or otherwise....woot!

Yeah, I agree. Trying to match up those blue decals with a bike. Sorta match the Devinci Troy. Would have though Giant Trance, except it has a normal tapered steerer. Who knows...

I am devising my tuning plan now...I have plenty of time, since I don't have a frame to put it on yet.

Thank you OP for posting this deal. I called backcountry and ordered one earlier today. Should have it here on Saturday. Will go nice on my wifes Tracer 275. Will swap out the Rockshox for the Talas 34.

    You missed the point.
I am saying they were not an OEM over run for a Giant, since they have a non-Overdrive2 steerer, unless that was the mistake.
The 150-120 Talas is an OEM spec. Also, the remote CTD seems to be somewhat rare. I was just speculating on what bike this surplus of 34s were intended for.

Doesn't matter to me, all I know is that for less than $600, I will have a custom tuned, 34mm stanchion fork, w/ HSC & LSC adj., when all is said and done.

Well, I too bought one of these clearance talas forks too without a plan or a bike for it.

I think this clearance talas 34 would be a perfect fork for building up a Giant trance from a frame set. This is pretty much what the bike was produced for with the oem talas 32 fork being used.

Can anyone else think of a sweet frame only option this talas 34 120-150mm fork would work great for? I was thinking Devinci Troy, but not sure if it was designed with 120mm front travel in mind.

This is one of the OEM forks on the Santa Cruz Bronson. Wholesale is over $600.

Mine is suppose to be here tomorrow. I forgot I'm doing Christmas with the in-laws this weekend so I won't see mine til Sunday night. My NS Bikes Soda frame will be here tomorrow also. I could have it built up and be riding in the rain Saturday.

At least they like to drink.

Mine arrived today. I ordered a few days ago from CC for $399, but they were cool and gave back a $200 refund.
In the box..just the fork (non Fit damper, non Kashima), and the remote with cable.
Going to try it as is, but probably will do either Push, Avalanche, or upgrade to the 2014 CTD damper.

How's this? The ad clearly states it's a "FIT CTD Remote" for damper?!?!

    Wait...what?
Per the spec sheet on the backcountry.com site:
    Damper: FIT CTD Remote

That is a problem...IIRC, the Push MX tune is for Fit only...

The Fox guy made it sound like the damper wasn't THE sealed Fit damper but some kind of "bastardized" form of the Fit damper that isn't totally sealed (but def. not an open bath)
So I have a call into Push to find out about it myself. That's why my prior post said $250ish for the "real" Fit damper. There's that or Avalanche if Push can't work on them.
Mind you, I could be totally wrong here, so wait and see.

yeah would be awesome to find out sooner than later.

As well I've been wondering if this is a 2013 or 14 and if it has the improved talas cart, and the valving with more compression that the 14 has

I guess I will be finding out how much a 2014 CTD damper assembly costs tomorrow.

FOX lists a FIT RLC 34 damper on the website, though it has it as 140mm of travel...not sure which would be better, the RLC or the improved CTD.

Can you run these forks at 120mm all the time or will the ride be less than ideal?

Definitely will be less than ideal but doable. I upgraded my 2012 34 Talas to the new Talas 5 and when in the lower setting (which is user tunable in 5mm increments)
it rides like a Float Fork of that size. Mine goes from 140mm to 125mm and I mainly ride in the 125mm setting. Night and day difference from the older Talas.

Mine's going on a new frame and it takes me some time to dial in my suspension so it's going to be a while before I pass judgment.

Here's the tech drawing for the O/C cartridge. Looks like a simple setup.

    Fox 34 Talas 27.5 150mm. 0-820-04-500-kit_reva.gif

I find it hard to believe that no one can work on this and make it better. I'm going to call Suspension Experts next week to see what they have to say.

I have a Tower Pro that is laying around and have been very happy with it. I might have to start a thread called "How to fit my awesome Manitou internals into my garbage Fox fork." I'm a wood shed tinkerer so the more drilling, dremeling, hacksawing, super glue, and duct tape the better.

Here is the entire leg assembly if anyone is interested.

Seems to be a minority position here but I think the FIT cartridge is less desirable than the ol' tried and true open bath. I love the option to tune easily which is something my FIT forks don't allow. I know the FIT is the higher end system but it hasn't lived up to the hype for me.

    From the comments on backcountry:

it's against the law to sell products under recall.
I will clarify that we do have more of these forks coming in and they will in no way be effected by the recall. Please check back with us soon.

Maybe it comes down to implementation merits? I certainly won't profess to be an expert. All I know is that almost all of the forks I've owned that were OB, I've been able to tune to my liking and none of the FIT forks have measured up (or close). Granted the ratio is probably several dozen OB forks to only 2 FIT so my perspective is probably skewed.

For this wallet draining $200 experiment, I'm happy with the OB.

Oh for sure, its still a good deal, but not what I thought I was getting. They clearly advertised FIT, and it is not, meaning to get the fork where I want it is going to cost a bit more than expected, and turns into a good deal instead of a great deal for what the end product was I wanted

I had an OEM Float 29 EVO O/C on my Tallboy that busted a dual lip seal on the damper side and the O/C oil leaked into the lowers and hydrolocked. I contacted Mojo, TF Tuned and every other Fox service in Europe, and everyone suggested to send the fork in not for a repair, but for a full damper swap. Nobody wanted to sell me even a seal kit for these dampers, i had to go to my o-ring supplier to get this baby fixed. Smells like Fox wants these dampers discontinued and is advising dealers to phase them out?

Hey, guys/ladies who've received one of these forks, can you please run thru this recall notice and see if it's one of the recalled ones, since it falls entirely w/in the description in the recall notice...thanks in advance.

You didn't read this thread and you didn't read your own link, both clearly state that the recalled forks are FLOAT not TALAS.
