Calling the 1x conversion gurus ...

So I have a 2015 Giant Reign 2 and an 09 specialised FSR XC and am looking to convert them both to 1x

The reign is 2x10, shimano Deore crank (104BCD) & shimano deore slx + shadow rear derailer

The specialised is 3x9, shimano crank & shimano deore slx shadow rear derailer

The specialised won't index right after putting on a new SRAM chain. On the stand it does and shifts nicely but under load it keeps skipping in the middle of the rear casette no matter what I do.

6+hrs of mucking around and im over it, so looking to convert both to 1x.

The Reign I'm undecided on wether I'll go 1x11 or 12 and whatever is left over from the reign I'll use on the specialised so it'll be a 1x10 on the specialised using the old reign casette new sunrace casette on the Giant

Can I get away using both derailers by winding the b tension screw on both of these to acommodate one extra gear? If so I'll stick with 1x11 on the reign. If not I'll go 1x12 on the giant and get a new derailer for it. Then put 1x10 casette and derailer on the specialised.

I assume neither of these will need new freewheel hubs ?

Often, skipping on the middle of the cassette is the sign of a bent derailleur hanger. Regardless of what you do on the front, you may want to check that, if you haven't already.
You will need new derailleurs and chains to go up from 9 speed.

It's a good bet the cassette and/or chain ring are worn so the new chain skips.
    oops I wasn't clipped in
