Right - I'm sure this has been on here a million times but I couldn't find it in one easy place
Basically - has anyone really noticed benefit of 650b vs 26? I'm still somewhat in the "this is all marketing bo@@ox" camp, but if they genuinely offer the benefit of 29 without the supposed pitfalls, I'm in!
Absolutely! Better rolling res, grip, stability, and less hang-ups on chattery surfaces. The 650b party got started because rider/tinkerers were experimenting with conversions and noticing benefits and spreading the word.....sure, mfr's are going to hype whatever it is they're trying to sell, but that doesn't nullify the real world benefits to the wheel size. They're not going to give you the "steering is optional, roll over anything, steam roller effect" of 29ers....but IMO, they give just enough of that without killing the fun.
Absolutely, what has been said about the 27.5's being the "best of both worlds" is pretty much true. The ones that argue against are the diehard 26ers and the buyers remorse 29ers.
I noticed a big improvement in rolling and climbing through chunky tech going from a "normal" 26er tire to a large 26er tire [Conti Trail King 2.4"]. Going to a 2.3" 650B tire/wheel would be a similar increase in diameter and I'm looking forward to enjoy that with my next bike.
We've had 4 of my regular riding buddies go to 650B and they are all loving it and riding better than ever - especially on the techy climbs.
To me the benefits were noticeable but not mind blowing. Until I jumped back on my 26 bike after a few months riding the 27.5, I was like WOW ! The 26er and stockpile of tires I had are now gone...
You must not have looked very hard... there are half a million threads on this same subject.
They're all different and they all have benefits. Go out and test-ride one to see for yourself; it all depends on what you want it for.
