I am really lusting after the Pivot 429 but am only 5'6" and much prefer the 650B tire. Not sure if I should wait for Pivot to release a low travel 650B bike or try and convert the 429C to 650B. Looking for opinions and comments from people who have done this conversion.
I haven't done that conversion, but I've ridden a few Mach 429's and one 429c, as well as my own 26>>650b conversions, in rocky Austin TX, and I think you'd end up with much too low of a bb unless you're strictly riding smooth flowy trails.
That would be a very low BB height. Not ideal. You could try a Blur XCC. The suspension is similar and it would give a fairly good bottom bracket height.
This is a little out of thread, but I put a 650b wheel on the front of my medium mach 5.7 carbon and couldn't be happier with it. I'm 5'7" and it fits and rides like a dream.
Yeah, I have a buddy with a 5.7. I've been telling him for a long time to put a 650b wheel on the front.... he stressed, researched, over-analyzed, stressed some more.... finally did it and loves it.
Is your 650b conversion done with a mach 5.7 aluminum.
I have a mach 5.7 aluminum in small and considering a conversion.
How did you achieve the conversion?
