Sure looks like it would be with that rear swingarm design.

Bump! For my interest in this frame... and in 650b....
    Anyone else done this since?

I am always amazed at the positive reviews this bike gets. Seems single pivot bikes still work pretty well. I don't know if it's 650b compatible, but I have heard rumors that Orange is working on some 650b / 27.5" bikes.

    Cheers,

I thought I did read someplace it would clear a 650B in the rear. It might be in my PM messages so I'll have a look through those. What my Prophet could have been with further development. Still love the simplistic burly look to these bikes and would love to own one...just because.

Kirk, I hope your right. The 5 is just an ideal candidate for 27.5 with a few geo tweaks and then slap the XX1 on it for good measure. Yeah, that would be a fun bike.

I used to be into finishes, etc.....
But, I now prefer the utilitarian, purpose built, "tool for the job" look of a raw frame. Where one can look at, and appreciate the work and craftsmanship that went into making it.
Especially after watching the Orange Factory Tour vid.

I love the "imperfections" that show from the mfr'ing process on a Raw Alu frame.
Blinged out, swoopy, and hydroformed are fine.... but give me the look of an Orange, anytime!

Nice video, love that kind of stuff.

Can't find the info in my PM folder so I threw an e-mail to Orange Bikes about a few different things. They seems like a company that might actually give a honest answer about fitting a 650 wheel on the current Five.

You like the raw finish may I suggest the new Banshee Spitfire 650 (or Rune or Prime 29'er). I demoed the Prime in the Raw finish with clear coat and it's pretty stunning if you like that look. If I was to get the new Spitty it would be between the raw and anno black. Tough decision.

Here's a cool video for you on the new Banshee V2 frame

Meh.... Just don't like the clear coat. Had a raw Sinister and loved it. Bare alu... no finish.

    And another Orange Vid.
    It is what it is
A little more of the "hands on" of what it takes to put out an Orange.

a while ago I put some neo moto 2.35 on blunt rims in the back of my 2007 5, with no air in the shock the tyre just only touches the front mech cable.

I contacted Orange about fitting a 27.5" wheel on the Five. They said it's a no go and they've tried it. I assume that just means the tire will hit the seatpost as the rest of the swingarm has great clearance. Probably shimming the shock would solve it but how much I have no idea. He did mention "it's something we are playing around with here at Orange" so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see (and this was my idea to him) a 27Five in the near future (ha, get it). Bike is a natural for it. Of course I emailed him my arguments why all this should happen and soon. We'll see.

Nice, I like it. Simplicity, put it away wet bike with monster mud clearance.

Me too. Just by the Look Im always big Fan of these Mono-Stays Single Pivots. Plus Orange is well manufactured and has that certain "very british" Style and Understatement! But when it comes to Suspension-Permormance I like something different ...
