Need wheel and tire recommendation for Giant Reign

Screw it, I'm gonna convert my '11 Reign to 650b/27.5...

I tried lighter wheelset and tires and it's fun and fast, but I'm intersted in the 27.5" craze. So instead of throwing down $4000 on a 650 specific bike now, I'll spend a fraction of it on a wheelset and have a good year to experiment on a 650/27.5 conversion.

What that being said, I need a druable, cost effective and relatively light 650/27.5 wheelset and tires. Most likely, I'll be swapping these onto whatever 27.5" bike I end up buying in 2014.

I like Stan's Flow, but I need to be schooled first before I commit...

I forgot to mention that I'm using the stock 150mm Fox 32 Fork 15QR

C'mon guys. Someone please give me some options.

Would it be safe to get Stan's Arch EX wheelset? I imagine Crest too light and Flow too heavy? I'm looking for durable and light AM that will last. My budget is roughly $500. I'm also thinking Nobby Nics. Would my 150mm Fox 32 fork clear ok? Do I get 2.1 tires or can I get away with 2.3?

    Thanks

I haven't checked but will that bike clear a 650B wheel in the back? With a small tire perhaps? What's the current BB height with 26" wheels out of curiosity?

The new NN tires will probably just clear the arch of your fork but WILL hit the bottom of the crown at bottom out. It's a tall tire at very close to 28" (711mm) You would need about a 6-10mm spacer to be totally safe but very few Fox forks get full travel. Your risk. Neo Moto 2.3" or Nevegal 2.35" you should be ok up front with no spacer

That's a 150mm bike correct? Pacenti TL28's or the new Flow EX would be my choice over the new Arch EX. The Pacenti is a nice light rim for it's width. I just got a look at the new Flow EX and like the new width (I use Flows now and also have a Pacenti TL28) and it looks good. Buddy is having them built up now for this weekend.

A reign will fit a 2.35 650 tire, no problem.

Really...sweet. If the BB doesn't end up stupid high (over 14") that will make one nice conversion. Maestro is really good.

    13.8" unsprung with 2.25, so under 14" with 2.35' I reckon.
But if I go that route, I will run an offset shock bushing, and a Talas (100/130/160), which would give me as low as 13.2 (in 100mm mode)

It's gonna raise the bike 1/2" with no mods so you're looking at 14.3". How much does the offset bushings get you?

My Prophet went from a 13.75" BB with 26" wheels to 14.25" with 2.3 Neo Moto 650B wheels. I would love to try a converted Reign in my conditions even at that potential height.

Sorry about that... I've been too busy riding and working.

Anyway, my BB center is 14.5". I went with Pacentis' NeoMoto tires and Flow EX wheelset. I bit higher than I was hoping for but to be honest, I'm not sure how much more advantageous it was when it was 13.5" when I was running 26" wheels and Kenda Nevegals. I can definitely feel the increased momentum through berms, but I'm not a pro racer or pro jumper or pro downhiller or pro anything (for that matter) so I like to think my Reign got a little more versatile... I'm still hitting the same small jumps with the same technique and it's all good. However, I've tried the same jumps on a 29er and it just doesn't feel right. So I'll stick with this setup until I can afford a 27.5" specific bike (i.e. Intense 275).
