Mavic Crossmax Enduro Wheel Tire System (WTS)

    http://m.pinkbike.com/news/First-Loo...cific-WTS.html

There are no plans for a 29-inch version as Mavic feel 650b/27.5-inch wheels/tires are likely to be the choice for enduro racers in the coming years.

imo pretty bad marketing making it seem like some new rim- tire interface.

Mavic Crossmax Enduro Wheel Tire System (WTS)

Dunno about the marketing. One of my friends sent me this link from Bike Mag

    http://m.bikemag.com/gear/initial-th...d-remedy-9-29/

and was taunting me about the opinion that 27.5" doesn't "offer much advantage over 26-inch wheels." AFAIC, Trek and Spesh are alone in the industry & behind the curve with this bogus opinion.

As evidence, I sent him the Mavic link. Who is screwing the pooch? I think it's Trek and Sesh, not Mavic. If 27.5" dominates Enduro and makes a strong showing in DH this season, maybe the 2 holdouts will figure out there's an advantage.

dont get me wrong, its a great idea and something imo that was needed but calling it a "system" is misleading.

Things I'm not so sure about with these:
    1) 19mm rear rim? Why so narrow? Even the front is pretty narrow.
    2) Not that light. 1710g; you can get Stan's wheels that are lighter than that for less $$, or really nice I9 Torch wheels that are a lot lighter for a bit more.
    3) Not crazy about the tires; again, awfully heavy, and what if that's not the tire I want/need for the conditions I ride?
    4) I don't get Mavic's spoke patterns. Why more spokes on the front than the rear wheel (Crossmax are the same)? I'd think the rear would take more abuse. And, why lace the rear radially on the drive-side? Surely crossed pattern there would give better stiffness under power?(None of the are rhetorical questions; I'm sure they have a reason for engineering them this way, I just don't get it.)
