Marianne Vos wins Sea Otter STXC on Giant 650b

27.5" makes a ton if sense for female or short stature riders.

By time first world cup rolls around a significant portion of the field will be on 650b. It appears, that for both women and men that if they have an option of racing 650b they are switching.

Meanwhile Team KHS has been doing well DH with 650b. Logan Binggeli has a win on his belt

Wonder if there's much money in winning MTB races, compared to road and cyclocross. Well, MTB racing is probably more fun at least.

Not to mention both Athertons winning the opening BDS downhill race on GT prototype 650b rigs. Rachel won by 8 seconds. Gee by 2.

In a couple seasons, I wouldn't be surprised to see 26 DH race bikes all but phased out.

Vos would have had a great race on a 20" bmx bike. Just start counting up the races she's won on road, cyclocross and track and the one's she's yet to win(she's just 25).

I saw they Athertons were on new proto GT DH bikes, but no mention of 650b.
Where did you get the news from? It would mean Conti has DH tires in the works.

The rider is more important than the bike, obviously. The interest here, is that another pro either chose, or agreed with sponsor to ride, the novel wheel size. Especially after the past few years of virtual indoctrination that 29" is the be all and end all of XC racing, size of the rider notwithstanding. And Vos is the 1st pro female to do do.

Also interesting is that in XC, these riders are moving "down to" a smaller 27.5", while in DH it's just the opposite: moving "up to" a larger 27.5", and either not seeing a disadvantage (XC) or seeing an advantage (DH).

Actually Sabine Spitz raced a 650b to a silver medal at the Olympics last year.

No doubt. Just ask that guy from Australia. What was his name again?

Absalon, whoever he is, moved to 29 from 26 this year. The racing was great last year. I hope that it's just as exciting this season.

It's great that Vos has added 650b to her arsenal. Like she needs any more firepower

He finally caved! The last of the 26'er holdouts?

    I dunno, Cadel Evans?

Lots to expect from Vos, though an injury might dash all that. I hear 29ers are safer and easier to ride.

The new GT Enduro bike that Dan is racing is a 650B. The new GT DH bike is still a 26er (at least the prototypes they had with them at SeaOtter). Rachel has come out as very anti-other wheels in an interview at Sea Otter but then that could also be a marketing ploy to fool the competition. But she did lose the Sea Otter DH to Jill Kintner who was riding a 650B Norco carbon.
