Man, my 650 Nickel build is spiraling out of control

I'm almost done but man it'll be nice when finished, I'm throwing it down for all the Nickel 650 builds lol. I'll post pics of the full build and some pics when I get the last piece in the mail in a couple days, inaugural ride should happen this weekend.

    -1x10 with X9/X0 components
    -X-Fusion Velvet, 15mm, tapered
-Stans Flow EX wheelset with 3.30 hubs and Racing Ralphs courtesy of Hammerhead
-Magura MTS brakeset, MT4 lever with MT6 caliper, from 2013 Epic Carbon

Hopefully it'll be about 25#, I need to pick up a light saddle and the Easton EC70 is in the mail so it should be all done by the weekend.

I had intended on doing the bike for around $2k but now I'm in the $3k range, as I was building it I kept buying nicer parts than what I intended originally and I wanted to keep everything red/black, simple color scheme, which made it even more costly....
Hardrock 29er, Niner EMD9, Cannondale F29, Camber Expert, 650b Nickel all gone.

Most of my builds usually end up nicer than I originally intended. But you may as well get it just the way you want it, in long run its cheaper then building on the cheap and then upgrading later on.

My wife would crap a litter of kittens if she saw the spreadsheet with the weight and cost of all the build items

Its charting out like it'll be in the low 24# range but figure with grease and stans it may be about 25#.

What they don't know wont hurt them...or you from sleeping in the garage

25lbs for a Nickle would be pretty amazing I think. I think of it (and the Butcher) more as a 30lb bike and perhaps one reason SC nixed them from the lineup.

If you hit that 25lb mark I might crap a litter of kittens

Yup, I'm doing the same thing. Saving a bit in the short run as I'm pilfering a couple things off my Kona. Should be on the trail Sunday. I too am waiting on the postman. Don't forget to post pics when it's done!

I am curious to see what the weight comes out to be. If I had to put in a guess I would say 27# range.

Your build is turning out the same as every build I've done - way over budget!

Im curious to see how the frame works in the 650b format. I have been considering converting my Nickle. My bike has a 200x57 rear shock on it so im curious to see if I can run 650b and still get 140 mm of travel.

It works quite well but I do not think you can safely get 140mm with 650b wheels.

    Nope

not enough clearance.. my 2.10 Nev has 1/8 inch under full compression with the standard 200x50 shock.

    Good luck!

Dont think about it, just do it. You just bolt everything on and mount up the wheels, No mods.
