    Fox 36 160mm Talas - Can I run 650b

I have a 2012 Fox talas 160mm fork, wondering if I can run a 650 b wheel? If so any limitations with tire size? What benefit would there be in a true 650b fork.

I put a 27.5 Hans Dampf 2.35 on my 26" Talas 36 160 just to see if it would fit. It did with maybe a kittle less than 1/2 inch of clearance. Don't know how it would ride I didn't try it.

A 2.25 Ardent clears the arch by about 4mm. A 2.35 Nevegal clears arch by about 5mm. (Haven't figured out how to access the photos on my iphone from my mac, but I could email them to you if you want.)

If you refer to my posts at (#631):
    http://forums.mtbr.com/650b-27-5/off...392220-26.html

    and at (#24): http://forums.mtbr.com/650b-27-5/27-...ce-833399.html

you'll be able to work out how much clearance to the crown bottom you can expect at bottom-out:

For the Fox 36/160, the axle to crown-bottom number from Fox is 514mm. Minus 160mm to get the value at bottom out: 514-160 = 354mm.

The 27.5/2.25 Ardent has a measured diameter of 27.88 inches. Converting to mm gives: 708.15mm. Converting to radius gives: 354.08mm. So zero clearance...

However, when I measured up from the top of my mounted tire to the bottom of the crown, I got something like 163mm, indicating that I should have 3mm of clearance at bottom out. I didn't try the method of letting all the air out of the fork and bouncing on the bars. Not sure why the discrepancy in numbers, but Fox does warn that their numbers are only good for +/-5mm accuracy...

    I'm currently running the 650b Ardent/Fox36 up front on a Mojo HD160.

Ok, I figured out how access my photos.

This one is Arch clearance of the 2.25 Ardent/2011 Fox36:

This is for the 2.35 Nevegal:

This is top of tire to bottom of crown for the Nevegal (don't have one for the Ardent yet):

Again, not sure why the discrepancy between calculated clearance and my measurements. I really should try the 'bounce' test...
