650B bikes with FS for under $2500

I will purchasing a bike for my son in a week of less and the price point I'm working with is $2500 or less. Mostly used for XC with some AM thrown in for good measure. He's turning 17 and about 6'1 / 140lbs so I was looking for a large (I think)
Best thing I have found was the Giant Trance 3 at $2150 but do you know of another bike I should look at before purchasing?
Please let me know your thoughts and thanks in advance

There is a used Santa Cruz Bronson on eBay for around that price. Not sure what size you're looking for, and the Bronson might be more AM than XC, but I LOVE mine.

    Web address : Home Page

One of the guys on my Wednesday night crew bought one 3 months ago. He says he loves it, Very Happy with his decision.

It looks like the Rift is a 29R and what I'm looking for is called Vision I guess.
    Any feedback on that model?
Haven't found pricing as of yet either

Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt is another candidate. Also checkout the Norco line as they have some fine offerings.

Can't beat a Giant. I know a few guys on the new Anthem 27.5 too and there's been nothing stopping them from mixing in some "Trail riding" (which is probably what you ment by AM?) with their typical XC outings. These riders came down from 29'rs as well.

    Dirtrider,
My mistake The Rift Zone is 29". One of the other guys in my crew went Giant Trance 27.5. Good luck with your search. I'm not far behind, mayber April of 2014 a new steed (27.5) will find its way home.

    No worries johnhitt..
Just looked at the Trance 3 again just now and it seems like a lot of bike for that price. Some of the others seem to have only 100-120 travel and lesser quality components.
Probably will pull the trigger by Friday
I'll check on a couple of others "while working" this week...ha ha

I am too looking for a 27.5 bike in the same price range with similar qualities and the Trance 3 is currently at the top of my list. I went to my LBS yesterday and rode both the Trance Advanced SX and Trance 3 in size Large. It was drizzling so I only rode them in the parking lot so I can't really report back on how they felt, however I wish I wouldn't have rode the SX as it's such a sick looking bike! From browsing the internet, I was a bit skeptical of the red frame the 3 has but can definitely say it looks much better in person. I will note that I am 6'3 and that the Large felt pretty small. They did not have any XL frames so I wasn't able to ride one but I'd definitely need an XL. Depending on the inseam and reach of your son, you may want to have him sit on a Large before pulling the trigger.

If you end up going with the Trance 3, report back and let us know how he likes it!

Since you mentioned Kona, might as well go for a Process 134; SRP is 2.3k
Better to have and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

    Trek Remedy 7?

Trek Remedy 7 650b could fit the bill

MSRP is just over $2800 but you might be able to knock it down to $2500 or even less?

650B bikes with FS for under $2500

I've been giving Fezzari a serious look for a Carbon HT for myself. They have fairly well specked bikes for the price. This one may interest you. I'm not sure how it compares to the Giant.

Pulled the trigger on a Trance 3. I liked the way it rode, components
(for the price point), plus got a real smoking deal from a friend of a friend of a friend. Hundreds left over for other things like tubeless & GPS
