    Half-plus setup

Iím running a 2.8 ranger up front but it rubbed on hard corners in the rear. Switched to a 2.35 Kenda kadre I took off another bike and on the 30mm internal rims itís tough to tell a difference between the ranger. Id guess 3/8Ē narrower and stands at 27Ē, the ranger at 27.5Ē. When the kenda wears out I wanna try a 2.4Ē Nobby Nic since I hear itís pretty big for a non-plus tire. Anybody else running half plus? So far I love it

My bike is set up with a 2.8 ranger up front and a 2.25 nobby nic out back. I'll probably be going for the 2.35 ikon next for more volume and less tread to balance them out a bit more. Also running a 35mm rim up front and an old mavic 517 (18mm internal width), so I'll probably be switching the 517 out with a velocity cliffhanger or rhyno lite(rim brake only).

One question, if you were to carry a spare tube, what size would you bring with you? I have yet to flat my front (tubeless) but flatted the rear and luckily had the accordingly sized tube on me. Could you carry a 650b tube just to make it home?

Havenít figured it out yet. In guessing a high volume 26Ē tube should get me home, but I did use a decent amt of Stanís in each rim. Iím gonna go get one with a presta this week, all my other tubes were schrader. Did you not like the Nobby Nic?

I like the nobby nic. It rolls fairly quickly for the amount of traction it has. I think my main problem is that it feels squirmy through turns on my super narrow rim.

Riding rigid, I definitely appreciate the extra volume up front as well as the maneuverability of 26. I do wish I had more volume out back though.
My set up is quite different from yours as you can see. I am thinking about getting the ikon after my NN gives out for a more diverse set up, rather than trail focused.

Trying to decide if you mean half-plus as in, halfway to a plus tire, or half of the bike has a plus tire?

I have 2.5" Maxxis Mobsters (yes they're old) on 22mm rims. I love the grip, and I'm still trying to decide what to replace them with. I haven't decided if I want to bump down to 2.35 or 2.4 with a faster rolling tire, or if I just want to stay with a stickier 2.5

FWIW, Maxxis put out a little chart for their Wide Trail (WT) tires to see the point of using them, and as an example they showed a 2.35 on a 30mm wide rim and it squared the profile off too much, so your transitions in corner to the side knobs was kind of abrupt. Food for thought.

I have a plus tire up front and regular tire rear. I switched the Kenda for a 2.5 minion dhf and so far I like it. Itís tough and not too slow. On my 30mm rims it does NOT square off the profile.

I run a 2.8 Magic Mary up front and a 2.5 WTB Breakout on the rear and it's a very good combo. The 2.5 Breakout is the biggest 2.5 on the market.

I only see that Breakout in 27.5 and 29 though
